Meet the Handicapped Pets of Facebook

They each have a different story about how they became disabled. Lucy was hit by a car while living in Puerto Rico and was found struggling by the side of the road. Ru Ru had a loving home with a very playful sibling who accidentally paralyzed him while they were playing. Duke suffered a gunshot wound to the spine and was found struggling to swim in the Des Moines River.

Thankfully, all of these pets now have loving homes with caring owners who provide for their special needs and report on their progress through Facebook page updates.

The most recent handicapped pet to begin his own Facebook page is Duke - a mixed breed who was adopted this weekend after spending several weeks in the care of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and also undergoing surgery and canine rehabilitation at the Iowa State University's Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center. Below is a video report on Duke's rescue and recovery as well as the continued efforts to locate information about the person who shot Duke and threw him into the river. There is a $6,500 reward being offered in the case.
