Dog is My Copilot
The organization first took flight in 2008 when Debi Boies' friend Jon Wehrenberg offered to use his private plane to transport a rescue dog that had been pulled from a high kill animal shelter nearly 500 miles away. Since that first rescue mission, volunteers with Pilots N Paws have flown tens of thousands of "death row dogs" like Chance from high kill animal shelters or from situations of abuse and neglect to new adoptive homes.
In the book, Boies recalls a conversation she had with Wehrenberg shortly after the initial flight in which Jon said, "You know, Debi, we really have to do something about this. If we can connect these transport needs with general-aviation pilots, I really think we could make a difference."
And what a difference they have made in lives of so many dogs in need of rescue.
